Release 4.5.1 introduces Completion-Based Assessment, a new assessment setting that allows learners to complete training by submitting an assessment, regardless of whether they achieve a passing score.
This feature is useful for participation-based training, acknowledgements, self-assessments, and knowledge checks where assessment results should be recorded but completion should not depend on passing.
Assessment scores, Pass/Fail results, and review workflows continue to function as they do today. The only difference is how training completion is determined.
The Completion-Based Assessment setting is available in:
Course Creation → Settings → Assessment Settings
Course → Settings → Assessment Settings
Event → Session → Assessment → Settings
The setting appears below Make Assessment Optional and is available only when Make Assessment Optional is set to No.
Default Value: No
When Completion-Based Assessment is enabled:
Learners must submit the assessment to complete the training.
Training is marked complete immediately upon submission.
Assessment scores are still calculated and recorded.
Pass/Fail results continue to be evaluated and displayed.
Existing assessment review workflows remain unchanged.
For assessments that include manually graded questions, learners receive completion as soon as the assessment is submitted. Reviewers can continue grading manual responses after submission without affecting completion status.
When the setting is disabled, assessment completion follows the existing behavior and may depend on achieving a passing score.
These settings serve different purposes:
Learners can skip the assessment entirely.
Assessment submission is not required for training completion.
Learners must submit the assessment.
Passing the assessment is not required for training completion.
Assessment reporting remains unchanged, including:
Scores
Pass/Fail results
In Review status
Assessment history
In addition, reports now include:
A new Attempted (Yes/No) column indicates whether a learner has submitted an assessment.
Report overviews include a # of Learners Attempted count, showing the total number of learners who have submitted an assessment.
When a course configured with Completion-Based Assessment is included in a Learning Path:
The course is marked complete when the learner submits the assessment.
Learning Path progress updates automatically based on that completion.
A workplace safety training includes a short assessment to confirm participation. You want every learner to review the content and submit the assessment, but you do not want completion to depend on achieving a passing score.
By enabling Completion-Based Assessment, learners complete the training when they submit the assessment while scores and results continue to be recorded for reporting purposes.
Existing courses and event sessions retain their current behavior.
The setting defaults to No for all existing and newly created assessments.
Assessment scoring, reporting, and review workflows are unaffected.
