Description: Mentorship is a key pillar of professional growth and organizational success. When designed effectively, a mentorship program not only accelerates skill development but also fosters a culture of continuous learning and engagement. This article explores the dynamics of the mentor-mentee relationship and the associated privileges that facilitate a productive and rewarding mentorship experience.

The Mentor-Mentee Relationship

Mentor’s Role: A mentor plays a crucial role in the mentorship program and usually helps individuals with the following: 


  • Providing Guidance: Offering expert advice and sharing knowledge to help mentees navigate their career and skill development.

  • Supporting Growth: Assisting mentees in setting and achieving their goals, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging continuous improvement.

  • Facilitating Development: Helping mentees develop leadership skills and enhance their performance through personalized support and strategic insights.


Mentee’s Role: A mentee plays a vital role in the mentorship program and actively contributes to their own development through the following actions:

  • Active Participation: Engaging in the mentorship process by setting clear goals, seeking advice, and applying feedback effectively.

  • Open Communication: Maintaining transparent and regular communication with their mentor to ensure productive sessions and progress.

  • Applying Feedback: Implementing the guidance and recommendations provided by their mentor to achieve personal and professional growth.


How to access your Mentor/Mentee Dashboards

Once you click on the mentorship tab, you can explore all available mentorship programs and join as either a mentor or a mentee. By selecting the mentor or mentee dashboard, you will see all the programs you are involved in, complete with details and insights about your progress, meeting schedules, and more.

Privileges and Controls: Mentors:

1. Customizing the Program: Mentors can modify the program structure if enabled by the admin, tailoring it to better meet the needs of their mentees.

  • Select a Program: From the Mentor dashboard, choose a program that will serve as a template for customizing the mentorship experience for each mentee.

  • Edit Milestones: Modify or add content to the existing milestones set by the admin. You can also incorporate additional milestones as needed to better fit the mentee’s development goals.

  • Manage Prerequisites: Prerequisites such as the initial meeting, goal setting, self-reviews, stakeholder nominations, and pre-program feedback remain fixed and must be completed as outlined.

Below is an image of a mentorship program where mentors can click on the three dots on the right and drag the nine dots on the left to modify the program milestones and structure for each mentee. [If the setting is enabled by admins for that program.


2. Schedule Meetings:

  • Go to the Mentor Dashboard and click on “Meeting + New.”

  • Enter necessary details including Title, Description, Program, Mentee, Date, Time (Start/End), and Meeting Type.

  • The meeting request will be sent to the mentee for acceptance or rescheduling.


Note: If the mentee reschedules, the mentor can either propose a new time or allow the mentee to suggest an alternative time.



Once you click on " + New Meeting " you’ll need to fill in the details as shown in the screenshot below:



3. Validate Meetings:
  1. After each meeting, both the mentor and mentee must confirm whether the meeting occurred by approving or rejecting the meeting status.
4. Provide Feedback and Ratings:


  • Skill Proficiency: Assess the mentee’s proficiency in the skills covered in the program. Note that if a skill was evaluated in multiple programs, the most recent rating will be reflected on the mentee’s dashboard.

  • Learning Behavior: Evaluate the mentee’s learning behavior throughout the program and provide additional feedback if necessary and the feedback will be visible on the mentee’s profile. 


Mentees:

1. View Programs:

  • From the Mentee Dashboard, explore ongoing Programs and view completed programs.


2. Meeting Requests:

  • Under Meetings, Create a new meeting with a Mentor by adding a Title and Description (optional), Selecting the associated Program, choosing a date and time, and whether it’s in-person or virtual.

  • Option to schedule meetings in between the course/milestone to discuss progress and seek assistance. 

  • Mandatory review meeting needs to be scheduled after completion of every milestone.


The screenshot below shows the enrolled mentorship programs visible on the mentee profile and indicates from where they can schedule meetings.



3. Mentor Selection:

  • If allowed, mentees can choose their mentors based on available profiles, ensuring a good match for their development needs.

4. Mentor Change Requests:

  • Mentees may request a change of mentor [if allowed by admins], ensuring they receive the support best suited to their goals.

5. Feedback and Evaluation:

  •  Mentees have the opportunity to receive constructive feedback from their mentors and other stakeholders. They can also nominate stakeholders to provide additional feedback on their progress.

6. Personalized Learning:

  1. Mentees benefit from a program customized to their developmental needs. They receive tailored guidance and support that aligns with their career goals.
